Not necessarily. We can run a cloud-only backup with no on-site hardware at all, which suits businesses with smaller data footprints or limited server room space. For faster recovery and larger data volumes, we combine a local backup appliance with cloud replication. We'll recommend the right approach for your recovery time requirements and budget.

All backup copies are stored immutably — they can't be encrypted or deleted by ransomware. No — Microsoft's shared responsibility model means they keep their infrastructure available, but protecting your data within Microsoft 365 is your responsibility.
